New York Fashion Week or any other fashion week for that matter showcases not only fashion but hair and beauty trends that will take the next season by storm. Today, I’m rounding up of some of my favorite hair trends from NYFW that are easy to do and will translate well off the runway and into your everyday life.
Sleek and slicked back– many designers chose a slicked back hairstyle to not distract from the clothes themselves. On the other hand there are designers that do the opposite to tie the whole look together. The sleek and slicked back hairstyle was all over the runway this season illuminating the models distinct bone structures with an heir of power and strength.
My favorite example of this hair trend is from Rachel Zoe’s Ready-to-Wear presentation. Zoe channeled her infamous 60s and 70s vibe by doing a slicked back style with a deep side part.
Half up do– this hairstyle is one that allows hair to be down but pulled back from the face at the same time. It is quick and easy and a great everyday style for a busy lifestyle.
Badgley Mischka did my favorite half up do this season for his Ready-to-Wear collection. The style was retro and super whimsical adding a polished flare to his Spanish inspired collection.
Braids upon braids– I think braided hairstyles will always be in and hot on the runway. They add a lot of interest and texture to an overall look and the possibilities are really endless.
Mara Hoffman did a beautiful unique braided hairstyle for her runway show this season. It was complicated, intricate and looked like the hair was woven together which tied in beautifully with her Star Wars-esque inspired collection.
Another important place to look for fashion, hair and beauty trends at fashion shows is to look to the audience. More often than not top celebrities, models and people of the fashion industry surround the runway showcasing unique outfits, make up and hairstyles.
Someone to always watch for new and upcoming trends is Olivia Palermo. She always dresses and presents herself impeccably. I suggest you follow her on Instagram @ oliviapalermo. To Rachel Zoe’s Ready-to-Wear Presentation Palermo wore her hair in a beautiful five-strand braid. It was unique and different from a plain three-strand braid which made it a complete stand out.
